Episode #5

'Laat Het Gras' by Margriet Sjoerdsma, Nathalie Schaap and Sanne Huijbregts as episode #5 of A Song A Day.

This episode of A Song A Day produced a dutch song - well thats a first! The lyrics are largely based on the dutch saying to 'not let the grass grow over it', which roughly translates into 'leaving no stone unturned'. We then transformed this into letting the grass grow, to symbolize the end of a relationship, and also wrote 'pulling on the grass' to create an image of frustration and pointlessness. Writing this song was a very fun process for me since I have never written a song in my own mother tongue. I discovered a certain freedom and ease of expression which I haven't yet fully attained in English. I'm glad I turned this stone, and will most certainly write more Dutch songs in the future.
